The Way forward

I, Rev Colin Campbell, have been appointed Interim Moderator of St Andrew’s by the Presbytery of Highveld.  I do have many other commitments, so you will not see me too often, but be assured that I will work hard with the leadership to make sure things run smoothly.  As a congregation you have a strong group of Preachers who will be sharing God’s Word in the weeks ahead.  Pastor Donald Cloete will be dealing with pastoral issues and visiting.

As Interim Moderator my role will be to moderate Session meetings and we will shortly have a Congregational Meeting (6 September 2009 after the service) to elect a Call Committee which I will also chair.  A Call Committee is usually made up of different members from the congregation.  Those elected should represent a spectrum of members from the leadership through to all the different groups and organizations within the Church.  This enables a wide range of views to be expressed, as a discernment process is put into place in the search for a new minister.  Pray, asking God to guide you in who should be elected on to the Call Committee, so that when the time comes we will be prepared.

We will set up a profile of St Andrew’s and discern what qualities are needed in a future minister of St Andrew’s.  Then we will either approach specific ministers or advertise the vacancy and ask interested ministers to apply.  This will all take a few months and will involve a number of meetings.
